Avidom, Menahem
(1908-95)
   Israeli composer. Born in Poland, he settled in Palestine in 1925, where he taught music. From 1945 to 1952 he was general secretary of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and then became adviser on the arts to the Ministry of Tourism. He was appointed director-general of the Israeli Performing Rights Society in 1955, and was also chairman of the Israel Composers' League. His works include Alexandra the Hasmonean and the symphony David.
